Socially and ecologically committed accommodation in Lyon

Our favorite
During our stay in Lyon, we were intrigued by this new concept: Pilo. Located in a former gymnasium, this accommodation is a hybrid mix of hostel and hotel. We had the pleasure of meeting Jérémie, Pilo's co-manager, who shared with us the history of this place and its ecological and social initiatives. Here's what we discovered.
We tell you all about it!

The building and its technical features
Pilo has transformed existing materials into a modern, eco-friendly experience. Old espaliers and benches have been reused in the fittings, and the rooms are equipped with eco-friendly materials such as Marmoleum and Valencian wood, thus reducing the carbon footprint. Despite the impossibility of installing solar panels due to the age of the building, Pilo stands out for its optimized water management thanks to an internal distribution center.
To minimize energy consumption, strict air-conditioning limits are set, and LED lighting systems are installed for maximum efficiency. The furniture, made from recycled materials, adds a unique and responsible touch to each room. Toiletries are made in France and presented in reusable bottles, reducing plastic waste.
Catering
Pilo's restaurant stands out for its commitment to healthy, sustainable eating. With 95% of its dishes homemade, the restaurant was recently honored with the "ECO TABLE" distinction, valuing its ecological approach. By giving priority to local producers, Pilo actively combats food waste, reusing leftovers to create new dishes and constantly adapting its menus.

Social involvement
Pilo is not just a place to stay, it's also a vibrant cultural center. With artists' studios, a student residence, a crèche and association rooms, Pilo regularly organizes events: meetings with producers, shows, stand-ups, concerts and conferences. This social commitment makes it a dynamic and inclusive place to live.

The offer
Pilo attracts a diverse clientele and plans to replicate its unique concept in other cities. The dedicated Pilo team consists of Jérémie, Mathieu and Yohan. With a welcoming inner courtyard, Pilo has become a soothing place, open to everyone... a real success story in Lyon.
The hostel offers a varied range of rooms suitable for groups, with dormitories and standard, double, premium and family rooms. Facilities include a shared kitchen, relaxation area, restaurant, seminar room and mezzanine for the enjoyment of nomadic workers.

In short, Pilo is an avant-garde accommodation model, combining social and ecological initiatives with an intergenerational meeting place. With its commitment to sustainability, its meticulous design and its friendly atmosphere, Pilo breaks with the codes and clichés of youth hostels.
