Ljubljana
Ljubljana, Slovenia's charming little capital 🌿🏰
You don't arrive in Ljubljana by chance. You come here to escape the noise, to walk along an emerald-colored river, to discover a human-sized capital, full of calm and gentleness. No metro or skyscrapers here. Everything is done on foot or by bike, to the rhythm of bells, markets and terrace conversations.
🌉 Crossed by the Ljubljanica River, lined with flowery bridges and pastel facades, Ljubljana is a discreet jewel, where medieval history rubs shoulders with the creative energy of a committed youth. Climb up to the castle to see the red roofs and the Alps in the distance, lose yourself in the narrow streets of the historic center and linger at the central market, where you can buy wild flowers, local honey and handmade ceramics.
🎨 When it comes to culture, Ljubljana is a treasure trove. Here you'll find surprising little museums, alternative venues like Metelkova, a former military site turned urban art and counter-culture mecca, and book cafés hidden in passageways from another era. Even the benches by the water seem to invite you to read, think and breathe.
🌿 Just a few minutes from the center, nature reclaims its rights. The vast, shady Tivoli Park is the city's green lung. Further afield, the hill path leads to vineyards, family farms, or even lakes and forests filled with natural caves. To date, over 15,000 caves have been discovered in Slovenia, and every year around 100 new caves are discovered by caving enthusiasts!
🍽️ And what about flavours? Ljubljana blends Slovenian tradition with responsible modernity. Revisited mountain dishes, natural wines, open-air brunches, homemade ice creams or locally-picked herbal teas... Here, we eat local, often organic, always with love. Don't miss the bureks at Olympija, our favorite spot for delicious Slovenian bureks straight from the oven.
🚆 Accessible by night train from Zurich, Ljubljana is a gentle, inspiring capital. A discreet city that's not visited in a hurry, but tamed as the water, encounters and seasons go by.
So, are you ready to fall under Ljubljana's discreet charm? 💛
Please note that this destination is only available from August onwards by night train, due to work on the rail network between Zurich and Ljubljana!
